What does Structural Engineering involve?

Project Exploration:  We determine the scope of services and project design criteria based on client goals. Coordinate with other project team members. Brainstorm best structural systems and layout for project and client requirements.

Structural Design:  While architects design the skin of a building, structural engineers design the bones of a building. We use material properties and equations to predict how a structure will perform under certain loading conditions. Specifically, we incorporate project design criteria and design structural systems to resist gravity (self-weight, people, furniture, and snow) and lateral (wind and earthquake) loads.

Structural Drawing Production:  We take findings from structural design and incorporate them into a drawing set that is then handed over as instructions to the contractor as to how to build the building. Most drawing production is done as three-dimensional modeling in Revit.

Construction Services:  We provide field support to the contractor during construction, including reviewing shop drawings, answering questions on-site, and performing site visits.
